Sunday 2nd March 2025 marked the 35th year of Clean Up Australia Day.
This initiative inspires and mobilises communities to improve and conserve our environment, eliminate litter, and end waste. Australia generates about 500,000 tonnes of e-waste annually, according to the latest available data from the federal government’s national waste report.
Sustainability in IT is an approach to information technology that aims to reduce the environmental impact and our contribution to climate change, encourages being mindful of hardware use, and how we deal with waste.
One of the major benefits of utilising Quo Group’s managed cloud solution, is that you don’t need the latest and greatest hardware to host your system. This extends the life of your computers, drastically reducing the need to purchase new endpoints on a frequent basis.
With the majority of computer processing occurring in the cloud, your devices aren’t overworked and burnt out – you can use your hardware for longer meaning a lot less e-waste!
Reducing E-waste to Drive Destruction
Device care will lengthen the lifespan of your computer, where it could then be reused for new employees. Ensure vents are clear; store devices away from extreme temperatures; protect devices from damage while traveling; keep all software up to date. These all reduce excess replacement of IT equipment – and business costs too!
A valuable tool is reusing hardware where you can – you can wipe a drive and re-configure it for a new employee.
If the time comes that your computer is just too old to use, we can securely destroy your disks for you. This ensures that any data on your drives is taken care of by the experts!
For hardware that doesn’t hold data, you can contact your local council for information on local e-waste management services. There are no fees for disposing e-waste as part of the scheme for households and small businesses.
For other products such as printer cartridges, batteries and light globes, you can visit the Recycle Mate program or Planet Ark Recycling Near You websites which will tell you where you can recycle these.
